A break

My dear friend Tiffany came for spring break... and I took a break! No work, no studies, no Lima. Tiffany and I flew into Arequipa, a colonial city in southern Peru that was my first introduction to Peru 13 years ago! We took a tour of the Colca Canyon.... comperable to the Grand Canyon in the USA and were able to visit little pueblos, see life as its is still lived, animals, handicrafts and landscapes, blue skies and clouds that were without equal.

I need to get out of Lima more often was my main conclusion.

This world God has created with all its color, diversity, landscapes, and peoples is marvelous.

The pain of this broken world.... not just the teens and children I know who have been abandoned is deep. Many elderly women outlive their husbands and their children leave for a better life/education/career in the big cities, leaving them to beg, to collect plastic bottles, and sometimes to die lonely and hungry. I met and heard stories from some of these precious women!

Real community, friendships, sharing is so so precious. I am thankful for this woman!

Hi Christen, my name is Tani Manzano I'm from idt Mexico. Your dad is here for a couple days and he told me about your ministry and your blog. Last night I started reading your blogs and was so touched, encouraged and challenged by the stories and the kids. I also read about Lucho on the young life website. I just wanted to tell you that I will be praying for you and your kids. Looking forward to your next update! Love in Christ, Tani
